What We Do

The Weidner Foundation supports the work of morally heroic and unselfish men and women who are actively, and, to a great degree, independently, resisting political oppression. The Foundation is committed to the “rescuer” model—men and women who save the lives and dignity of their fellow world citizens without regard to compensation, reward, or professional or political expectations.

The Foundation also supports The John Henry Weidner Center for Cultivation of the Altruistic Spirit a repository for Mr. Weidner’s materials and a home for lectures, classes, and a small library. The center generates creative activities that discover, investigate and encourage altruistic behavior—including books, films, and class materials. If you are interested in having a speaker come to your school or organization, please contact Kurt Ganter, Foundation President at (207) 389-2638, write to him at 132 West Point Road, Phippsburg, Maine 04562. Dr. Ganter can also be reached ar .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

The Foundation will soon make documents and photographs available for academic research, both online and in a more traditional library setting. Much of Mr. Weidner’s personal effects, such as medals and awards will be available for study by special arrangement with the Center’s offices.
