Weidner Residence Hall At Collonges

The Adventist University of France (AUF) at Collonges will name its new residence hall “The John Weidner Residence” according to the AUF President, Jean Philippe Lehmann.  The residence hall will be the second tribute to Weidner and the Dutch-Paris Escape Line.  In June of 2016, the university dedicated a room in the university museum to the Dutch-Paris network.

The new residence hall will house a youth hostel on the ground floor which will, according to President Lehmann “make it possible for many teenagers to stay on our campus and discover the history of Jean Weidner at the very places of his ‘adventure’”.

John Weidner recruited many faculty and staff of the Campus Adventiste Du Saleve, as AUF was known during the war.  Some were Weidner’s friends- Roger Fasnacht, Jean and Anna Zurcher, Fredric Charpiot, Jean Lavanchy, Raymond Meyer and Paul Meyer.  An account of their role within Dutch-Paris will be explored in a new book to be released next year by the Oxford University Press titled The Escape Line: How the Ordinary Heroes of Dutch-Paris Resisted the Nazi Occupation of Western Europe.
