The Prins Bernard Cultuurfond in Amsterdam, Netherlands has announced that it is making a grant of 20,000 Euros to the Dutch-Paris Book Fund. The grant application was written and submitted by Maarten Eliasar, MD, a member of the Weidner Foundation Advisory Board. Dr. Eliasar’s father was a WWII refugee who escaped Nazi occupation by using the Dutch-Paris Escape Line.
To date, funding for the book has been provided by $100,000 of “seed money” from the Weidner Foundation Board of Trustees. In addition, individual board members have donated approximately $30,000 and pledged an additional $40,000 in the months ahead. The most recent commitment to support the book project has come from the Monterey Park Rotary Club. John Weidner was the club’s International Representative and a Paul Harris Fellow.
“We have been invited to submit applications to a number of other organizations and foundations,” says Kurt Ganter, Chair of the Weidner Archives, “this is despite the deep recession we are experiencing. Evidently, some funding organizations are reading the book project blog (http://www.dutchparisblog.com) and are seeing the quality of Dr. Megan Koreman’s research and writing. We are grateful for this gift and hope that it stimulates other foundations to match or exceed the Prins Bernhard grant”.
